It has been some time since my last newsletter so please think of this as a sort of Round Robin like the little chap above. People have been asking me what we’ve been up to over the last year and whether there will be a panto again this year. The answer to the latter, I’m afraid, is ‘no’. After the misfortune of having to take the unprecedented step of cancelling Aladdin last year, we decided to take at least a year’s step back from what we have been doing and then reconsider our direction. Key to our output has been panto in Beaconsfield and at least one Shakespeare in the Wycombe Swan and elsewhere each year. Whilst the panto is generally healthy in terms of ticket sales, pantomimes are very expensive to stage and unfortunately vulnerable to the last minute frailty of Human Beings, not to mention price hikes by suppliers. The abolition of Key Stage Three makes matters only worse: see BBC News. The school audience—already small—may soon disappear altogether. Then I remember reading somewhere that there may be a recession...grrr. But not everything is about what we’ve not done this year, or how the British public have fallen out of love with banks and shopping (even if it’s about time). Mark and I have both been very busy doing other things—not least having to earn money to buy things like roofs, food and fuel. We hope to be able soon to decide where we go from here. In the meantime we continue to provide bespoke theatre-based training solutions, technical support and there is one aspect of the company which continues apace... | |||||
